Subscription payment not accepting credit card information

I have been a member of PinMaps since August 2013, using a personal PayPal account. However, I would like to update my subscription payment method using an AMEX Cashback Credit Card instead.

Per guidelines, I cancelled my recurring subscription and am trying to upgrade my account using a credit card this time. However it does not let me proceed and says "this card cannot be used". Why is that? It is an American Express which is in the list of accepted credit cards.

Please advise. Thank you.

Paypal is our payment gateway. They process all our subscription payments. In order to do create a recurring payment you don't need to have a Paypal account; however you still have to process the credit card through the PayPal page.

Based on my research PayPal does not accept American Express cards unless that credit card is linked to a Paypal account.

Thanks for your response. So it seems like the way to go is:

(1) Create a new PayPal account with the Amex Cashback CC
(2) Link the new PayPal account with my PinMaps subscription to set up the recurring payments

Let me know if you disagree with any of the above steps.

I'm not completely sure about that. That's what I read somewhere.
I've been researching this issue that you report and I found serveral reasons that I'm posting here:

Why does PayPal keep rejecting my credit/debit card?

If you're credit/debit card is being rejected by PayPal with the message "The card you entered cannot be used for this payment. Please enter a different credit or debit card number." it might be due to one of the following reasons:

Your card is associated with a specific PayPal account, and you're not logging in with that particular account.
Your card was associated with a PayPal account that has since been closed.
You've linked the card to a PayPal account, but have not yet confirmed it.
You've exceeded your card limit with the PayPal system.
Your email address is raising a red flag in PayPal's system.
Your browser is not accepting cookies. You should clear any existing cookies and try again.

1) In my opinion (and this is only my opinion) is that your credit card might be associated with another Paypal account.
2) If that is not the case, then you can try to create a new PayPal account and associated the Amex card with it.
